Sleeping

JT and I had a great weekend : ) He did really good with sleeping and keeping crying to a minimum not including the travel to and from Flagstaff. This morning he slept from 7:30 pm - 5:30 am and fell asleep again after feeding. It's going on 8 am and he's still sleeping. I figured I'd let him sleep a little bit longer this morning since he had such a full and exhausting weekend. But he loved every bit of it especially being outside.

No Cheese for Mom

I have been cooking. I made mock stuffed cabbage as my first dish quite a few weeks ago. Thankfully I realized I shouldn't eat it since I'm breast feeding. Those who ate it seemed to enjoy it : ) I've made various things since. Most of the dishes were pretty good and much easier to cook than I thought. Two days ago I made lasagna. I had to improvise a little, but the dish was great : ) The next morning I fed my baby. That's when I realized what I had done. I had a lot of cheese the night before and now my baby was paying the consequences. He spit up almost everything he ate all day : ( No more cheese for me.

I hope it continues

Yesterday I learned something about my son.

(Flash back) I've been told many things about how to put a baby to sleep. Some told me to let the baby cry himself to sleep, but most told me that a baby younger than 6 months should never have to cry themselves to sleep. Not wanting to harm my baby, I chose to wait until JT was about 6 months before allowing him to cry himself to sleep.

JT is almost 3 months of age. I tried almost everything to get him to sleep yesterday. He woke at 3:30 am and wouldn't sleep again until 8:10 am while I was in the room with him. He woke less than one hour later. Then he took another nap after falling asleep breast feeding, but that only lasted about 30 minutes. Finally at 3 pm I had enough. He had to sleep. He was miserably tired. I couldn't put him through that any longer. He NEEDED to sleep. So I firmly told him that he was going to bed. I put him in his swaddler and laid him down. I prayed for him, gave him his pacifier and told him that he should not spit it out because I would not be back for a while. Then I left swiftly. I had music going and a video on so I didn't have to hear his cries. I decided I would wait 20-30 minutes. If he was still crying, I would go in and see if he needed to burp then put him down again and start all over. He really needed to sleep!!! About 10 minutes later it was silent. He slept until I woke him at 6 pm, 3 hours. I then put him down again about 7:30 pm. Again within 10 minutes he was asleep. He awoke at 5 am this morning and was wide awake. So I kept him up for an hour when he started yawning. I put him down and within 10 minutes he was asleep. He slept 2 hours. I changed him, fed him, and played with him. (I need to stay away from cheese :( He spit up a LOT.) I kept him up for about 2 hours hoping he would be done spitting up before I put him to bed again. I laid him down and guess what. Within 10 minutes he was asleep. I pray this continues.

I know every baby is different. My baby won't sleep with me around. He wants to be held and played with. He's so much like me it's uncanny : )

Napping

I think I finally have JT's schedule set as of today : )

Eat - 7:30 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, 4:30 - 6:30 pm (not sure about night time feedings, hopefully those will be out)

Sleep - 8:30 am, 11:30 am, 2:30 pm, bed time 7:00 pm

He has actually taken all of his naps today : ) just not in his crib.
I think he sleeps better partially sitting up. Maybe this will help him sleep through the night again.

7-18-09
Ok, so the schedule isn't exact. I'm working out a few kinks, such as, the baby needs to sleep longer than one hour : )

Going Backwards - in need of help

Tell me that it's normal for a baby to sleep almost through the night and then to go back to waking up during the night. The last few night JT has woken up between 12 am and 3:30 am and then again around 5:30 am. This morning he wouldn't go back to sleep after waking up at 5:20 am. He won't take naps for more than 10 minutes at a time; however he has been falling asleep around 4 pm each night. I do what I can to keep him awake from 5 - 7 pm, but it's not working too well.

Naps - If he is sleeping when put to bed for a nap, he wakes up within five minutes and cries until I go in and get him and calm him down. If he is awake, he cries once put down until I get him and calm him down. He needs sleep, but I can't figure out how to get him to sleep. Any suggestions? Oh, on the off chance he does sleep for 30 minutes and then wakes up, should I get him up or wait?

Fever

JT had his first fever since being out of the hospital. The under arm temperature was 99.2. The ped. on call said it was common to get a temperature after having the two month shots. I can give him .8 of Baby Tylenol every 5 hours. If it gets above 100 or so, I need to call them back. One of the shot areas is raised a bit. If that gets to be two inches around, I need to call them.

He slept from about 8 PM to 5:30 AM : )

What Happened?

JT woke up at 12 AM today and stayed awake until about 8 PM minus a few 5 - 10 minute naps here and there. He also got his two month shots : ( But he was a trooper. He is in the 89th percentile for height (24.5 in), 52nd percentile for weight (12 lbs 4 oz), and 41st percentile for head circumference (40). I knew his head would catch up soon. It didn't have much choice with his dad and mom's head being the size they are : )

Changes for the Better : )

JT has been taking naps the past couple days. I hope this streak continues. I love him so much. He has so much character. His smiles just melt my heart : )

Bed Time

Bed Time is 7 PM for my little one. I started out feeding him at 7 PM, but obviously he doesn't get to bed until later. So I moved his feeding time up to 6 PM. That doesn't work either. I think I finally figured it out. I have to start his feeding by 4:30 PM. If I do that he should be in bed by 7 PM. He made it to bed by 7:30 PM tonight : )

I gave him breast milk from a bottle the other night, 4 oz worth. I still had to nurse him after that. How much should a 9 week old baby be drinking?

Learning from a Friend

A friend told me that she is able to shower for ten minutes when her baby is in his bouncer. I decided to try that today. It worked : ) My baby allowed me about ten minutes before he started to cry.

More Changes

Infantino facing forward

Sat in his chair for a few precious minutes without crying : )

Morning Walk

JT and I wish Grandpa was with us during our morning walk. It's just not the same without him : (
